A Year Older

happy_23rd_birthday_quotes8

The thought of turning a year older in a few days is both exhilarating and nerve-wracking.

I love birthdays.

For me, this day is one of reflection. I compare the now to a year ago.. and usually, a lot has changed.

Simultaneously.. the prospect of the unpredictable arising future, makes my heart palpitate hundreds of beats per minute.

Each year, the cycle of growth meshes:

New ventures, new opportunities.. to new friends, and a loss of friends also.

This time last year, I would have been sad about the latter;

but this is the wonderful thing about reflection…

Reflecting back, I am thankful. Thankful because each year God blesses me with new and authentic people that are more aligned with my destiny and persona.

Each year, I can at least say that I am a step closer to reaching my goal.

Adulting…! (Don’t rush it)

As I type this, my heart is heavy.. but at the same time, I choose to be thankful. We often don’t realise how blessed we are until we really sit back and reflect.

Focusing too much on the negatives and paying not enough attention to the positives.

I choose to be grateful. I may not be where I want to be, but I’m certainly on the way. And even better, I’m definitely not where I used to be.

I look forward to comparing my ‘now’ with next year’s.

Here’s to 23 years on earth and many more
